Chapter Activities

Here is a list of the many activities that Harlan FFA participates in each year. 

DIVISION 1-GROWING LEADERS

LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE- Activities that help the individual develop technical, human relations and decision making skills to grow leaders.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Washington Leadership Conference, Leadership Career Development Events, District Chapter Officer Leadership Training, FFA Creed Speaking, District/State Officer Positions, Local Chapter Officer Training, State Leadership Conference

​HEALTHY LIFESTYLES COMMITTEE - Activities that promote the well-being of students mentally or physically, in achieving the positive evolution of the whole person. 

ACTIVITIES:

  • Meeting Recreation, School Laboratory Safety, Beginning of the Year Trapshoot, Fruit Sales Reward Incentive Trip

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE - Activities that develop a positive attitude toward lifelong learning experiences.

ACTIVITIES:

  • FFA Awards Banquet, DeKalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award, Harlan FFA Scholarship, Fruit Sales Scholarship Fund

PERSONAL GROWTH COMMITTEE - Activities conducted that improve the identity and self-awareness of members. These activities should reflect members’ unique talents and potential by reinforcing their human and employable ability skills. The activities should strive to enhance the quality of life and contribute to members’ life goals and development. 

ACTIVITIES:

  • Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs, Exhibiting Livestock at County and State Fair, 212 and 360 Leadership Conferences, Parliamentary Procedure Knowledge

CAREER SUCCESS COMMITTEE- Activities that promote student involvement and growth through agriculture related experiences and/or entrepreneurship and promote career readiness.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Ag Skills Career Development Events, Agricultural Business Tours, National FFA Convention, College Representative/Guest Speakers

DIVISION 2-BUILDING COMMUNITIES

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE - Activities conducted to preserve natural resources and develop more environmentally responsible individuals.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Adopt-a-Highway, Arbor Day Activities, Prairie Rose Conservation Day, 8th Grade Fishing Trip, May Monthly Meeting Fishing Recreation, Soils Evaluation Career Development Event

HUMAN RESOURCES COMMITTEE - Activities conducted to improve the welfare and well-being of members and citizens of the community.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Cancer Awareness Fundraiser Assistance, Donation of Poinsettias and Fruit Sales Items to Retirement Home and Food Pantry

CITIZENSHIP COMMITTEE - Activities conducted to encourage members to become active, involved citizens of their school, community and country.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Member of the Month Recognition, Adopt-a-Family, Donation Drives

STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE - Activities conducted to develop teamwork and cooperation between the local chapter and stakeholders.

ACTIVITIES:

  • ​Honorary Chapter Degree, Donation to Iowa FFA Ambassador Program, Harlan Municipal Utilities Partnership

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE - Activities conducted to improve the economic welfare of the community.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Yearly Community Service Project, Cyclone Salads

DIVISION 3-STRENGTHENING AGRICULTURE

SUPPORT GROUP COMMITTEE - Activities conducted to develop and maintain positive relations among FFA, parents and community leaders interested in supporting agricultural education.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Advisory Committee, Reestablish the Alumni Chapter, School Board Presentation, Faculty Appreciation Breakfast

CHAPTER RECRUITMENT COMMITTEE - Activities conducted to increase agricultural education enrollment and/or FFA membership and encourage greater participation.

ACTIVITIES:

  • ​New Member Orientation Night, 8th Grade FFA Membership, Greenhand Fire-up Camp, Recruitment Presentation, State FFA Officer Visits, Senior Trip to Ely, Minnesota

SAFETY COMMITTEE - Activities that enhance agricultural safety in the community.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Farm Safety Day, Kids' Fest, Buckle Up or Eat Glass Program

AGRICULTURE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE - Activities conducted to articulate and promote agricultural programs, practices, policies and/or education to elicit action.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Social Media Promotion/Advertising, National FFA Week, Tractor Day- National Ag Day

AGRICULTURE LITERACY COMMITTEE - Activities that help consumers become better informed about the production, distribution and daily impact of food, fiber and fuel.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Classroom Agricultural Presentations, Food for America Program, Greenhouse Tours
